If you?re just starting out, you have a long time to retirement and very few things beat stocks over the long run. Think the most important thing is to get started rather than trying to figure the best time to enter the market ? experts can?t even do that very well.
Starting out, I?d be looking at stock mutual funds rather than stocks because of diversification ? I wouldn?t have the money to buy 100 shares of five or six stocks.
I used to be an investment analyst and my suggestion would be to keep the expert giving you advice on buys and sells separate (another company) from the person who does the trading for you so there is no conflict of interest, that he/she doesn?t make a recommendation and then get a commission on your trade.
