Fast Company ? Creative Thinking Ideas from the 100 Most Creative ...

Following up the previous post on the June 2012 Fast Company list of The 100 Most Creative People in Business 2012, today?s list of creative thinking ideas from the Fast Company issue focus on disruptive and divergent thinking along with suggestions for enhancing your creative perspective. As with the other lists in this series, these creative ideas were inspired by the profiles in Fast Company. My intent was to pull a single creative thinking idea or creative lesson from each of the 100 profiles.

One interesting note about the Fast Company 100 Most Creative People in Business list is that the numbered rankings don?t seem to have any real meaning. At least I draw that conclusion from how certain groups of people who have similar characteristics (i.e., apps developers, two-person teams, fashion industry leaders, etc.) are given consecutive numbered rankings. That would be just TOO much of a creative coincidence.

Despite this indication the numbered rankings are so much hooey, each of the thirty-three creative thinking ideas below references the person whose profile inspired it, along with the person?s number on the 100 Most Creative People in Business list.

Here?s hoping these creative ideas get you thinking?and provide ideas for enhancing your own creative efforts.

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding | Cupid's Pulse: Celebrity ...

By Sarah Thaman

Spring has arrived, and along with it comes prime Wedding Season! If you have a relative or friend getting married this summer (and you didn?t?get called to Bridesmaid Duty), you may be wondering what appropriate attire might be. How can you dress to impress while still embracing the summer style? While the rules vary, here are some great ideas for three common types of weddings: Formal, Semi-Formal, and Casual/Beach.

Formal

Cupid's Pulse, celebrity couples, wedding, summer, style, fashion

Formal, or black-tie, affairs typically call for full-length dresses. Channel your inner goddess with a color block maxi like the one above, paired with a headband and silver bangles. Mint green is a hot trend, and pairing this hue with an emerald jewel tone make it ideal for day or?night. Wear your hair down, or stun with a low, loose bun. This Rose Evening Bag?is a perfect complement, holding all of your night?s necessities.

Semi-Formal

Cupid's Pulse, celebrity couples, wedding, summer, style, fashion

Semi-formal weddings are often harder to decipher. It?s always better to be more dressed up than underdressed, so opt for a flirty cocktail dress like the one shown above. This chiffon beauty is perfect for day or night, with coral-colored accessories, including this adorable Jules Wristlet. Nails are another great accessory ? and they often go overlooked. Choose a pair of neutral peep toe heels and perfectly pedicured toes for an added pop of color.

Casual/Beach

Cupid's Pulse, celebrity couples, wedding, summer, style, fashion

If the event calls for casual attire, such as a beach wedding, choose a feminine sundress. This is a perfect opportunity to sport a trendy print such as florals. Dress it up with a pair of adorable wedges, or dress it down with a pair of flat sandals. A peachy cheek and this stunning Mini Quilted Chain Flower Bag?complete the look.

When choosing a color of dress, consider when the wedding will take place. If the event is during the day, opt for lighter colors. Remember that while you want to look your best, this is the bride?s day. Out of courtesy, stay away from ivory, or all-white dresses. If the event is taking place in the evening, consider darker, jewel tone frocks. Follow these tips and you can?t go wrong. Who knows, you may just end up meeting your future husband ? possibly a groomsman?

Author Bio: While I may not be a professional stylist, I pride myself on choosing fashion that looks polished and classic, and I?m always helping friends choose their date outfits. ?Although I?m a writer for?HandbagHeaven.com?by day, outside of work I take joy in being a matchmaker, a newlywed, and a momma to my precious puppy, Luna.

Mitt Romney Clinches GOP Nomination

It's hard now to recall all the early season discussion around a brokered convention or prolonged Republican primary. All of that officially ended Tuesday night as Mitt Romney won the Texas primary and surpassed the 1,144 delegates required to clinch the GOP nomination.

Though he will not be named the official party nominee until the Republican National Convention the week of Aug. 27 in Tampa, Fla., Tuesday's news was a big win for the former Massachusetts governor, who failed to secure the necessary number of delegates during the primary four years ago.

His campaign put out this statement:

?I am honored that Americans across the country have given their support to my candidacy and I am humbled to have won enough delegates to become the Republican Party's 2012 presidential nominee. Our party has come together with the goal of putting the failures of the last three and a half years behind us. I have no illusions about the difficulties of the task before us. But whatever challenges lie ahead, we will settle for nothing less than getting America back on the path to full employment and prosperity. On Nov. 6, I am confident that we will unite as a country and begin the hard work of fulfilling the American promise and restoring our country to greatness.?

Canon Vixia HF R300

With video-capable phones and cameras, consumer camcorders?are in a tough spot when it comes to balancing price and usefulness. The Canon Vixia HF M50?($649.99, 3 stars) captures great video, but at that price, you might as well get a high-end digital camera that also takes great still images. The Canon Vixia HF R300 ($349.99 direct) falls in the lower range of the company's consumer camcorder line, but offers a far more compelling combination of performance and value. It lacks some of the low-light prowess found in the M50, but takes the advantage with a wider angle lens and 32x optical zoom. The smaller sensor still produces some great looking high-definition video, making the R300 a solid choice for the weekend videographer looking for a no-frills, easy-to-use standalone camcorder.

Design and Features
The R300 looks a lot like the higher-end M50, measuring 2.2 by 2.1 by 4.5 inches (HWD) and weighing in at 8.8 ounces. It feels a bit flimsier than the M50 (2.5 by 2.7 by 4.8 inches / 10.9 ounces), but is still comfortable to hold and shoot for long periods. The control layout is nearly identical on the R300 and M50, with a Record button on the right side, where your thumb naturally sits, and a zoom rocker on top, within reach of your index finger. In the LCD recess are Video Snap, Home, and Playback buttons, as well as a 3.5mm headphone and microphone jack, mini HDMI out, and mini USB out. There is no built-in memory, only a single slot for an SD, SDHC, or SDXC card. The lens cover is engaged and disengaged by a small switch to its right, which is less convenient than the automatic cover on the M50.?

All controls are accessed with the 3-inch touch-screen LCD. It definitely gives the R300 a clean and minimalist look, but I found navigating the touch menus to be a bit cumbersome. Focus, white balance, and exposure are all buried in touch menus, and getting precise control is too difficult. With this type of camcorder, however, I expect most users will stick to the fully automatic mode, which I found to be fast and accurate in most situations. The 230k-dot LCD is the same as the one found on the M50, and is still a bit too grainy and dim for bright outdoor light.

The R300 uses a smaller 1/4.85-inch HD CMOS sensor, but also packs a far more versatile lens. The 32x zoom lens features a 38.5-1232mm focal length (35mm equivalent) with an f/1.8-4.5 aperture, which is wider and longer than the M50's 10x zoom (43.4-436mm) with its f/1.8-3.0 aperture. Canon advertises a 51x zoom factor, using what it calls the Advanced Zoom feature, but really this is just a combination of optical and digital zoom.?

Performance and Conclusions
Though it lacks the "Pro" designation found on the M50, the R300 is a capable shooter, capturing crisp and clear high-definition video. You can choose from three shooting modes?Auto, Manual, and Cinema?with the latter simulating the look and frame rate of most film projects. Video format and quality can also be adjusted, with the highest setting, MXP, recording 1080i60 video in AVCHD format. Much like the M50, the R300 is limited to interlaced video as opposed to progressive, capturing 60 interlaced fields per second and encoding the video at 30 frames per second.

The resulting video is very similar to the M50, which is to say good, with sharp detail and fine textures. White balance is a bit less accurate with the R300, with colors skewing towards cooler hues. The smaller sensor means smaller pixels, which results in reduced low-light performance. The difference is most evident in the amount of image noise apparent in low-lighting situations. The M50 excelled, while the R300 showed noticeable grain in low-light. It didn't ruin the video by any means, but it is evident when playing back on large screen HDTVs.

Image stabilization is solid, helping steady shots at both the wide end and telephoto max. The 32x zoom is impressive, and could really come in handy if filming, say, a school play from the back row of a large auditorium. Obviously even powered image stabilization can only do so much, and when fully zoomed, video had the same dreamy wobble found on the M50, though it was a bit more noticeable on the R300. Autofocus was quick and accurate, and I actually encountered fewer instances where the focus would shift to the background inadvertently than on the M50. Audio quality was on par with the M50, with similar issues with picking up wind and other ambient room noises. And as with the M50, the R300 has a 3.5mm mic input for better audio capture with an external microphone.?

When compared with video captured by a point-and-shoot camera, like our Editors' Choice Canon PowerShot S100?($429.99, 4.5 stars), the R300's video lacked some of the saturation and vibrancy, but was able to achieve similar levels of detail and sharpness. The R300 does have an advantage in moving shots, like a slow pan, where the S100 turned in slightly choppy video. Still images, which are captured at 2-megapixel resolution, however, don't loook great on the R300, with too much image noise and loss of finer details.

The Canon Vixia HF R300 strikes a solid balance between performance, features, and price. At $349.99 it's less expensive than most digital cameras that shoot comparable video. It lacks the built-in memory, Wi-Fi, and low light performance of the M50, but also costs considerably less. A solid camera like the PowerShot S100 is more versatile, taking far better stills and capturing relatively sharp 1080p video. However, if you're sold on the traditional camcorder form-factor, the R300 is a solid, easy to use, and relatively affordable option for more casual shooters.

Tony Blair defends Murdoch friendship | The Enlightening ...

RIMANEWS-Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has defended his friendship with Rupert Murdoch, saying it was "a working relationship" until he left office.

Mr Blair told the Leveson Inquiry he had not changed any policies to please the newspapers owned by Murdoch.

He added he would not have become godfather to one of Murdoch's children based on their relationship in office.

Earlier, a protester had to be ejected after getting into the court and calling Mr Blair a "war criminal".

The inquiry is investigating press standards, and currently focusing on the relationship between the press and politicians.

"It was a relationship about power," said Mr Blair. "I find these relationships are not personal; they are working [relationships], to me."

He added: "Despite all this stuff about me being godfather to one of his children. I would not have been godfather to one of his children on the basis of my relationship in office.

"After I left office I got to know him. Now it's different. It's not the same."

Close interaction

Mr Blair admitted he had "flown half way round the world" to Hayman Island, Australia, to meet Mr Murdoch and News Corporation executives when he was Labour leader in 1995.

He said he wanted to persuade the organisation against "tearing us to pieces".

Mr Blair said a close relationship was inevitable but also involved a "certain level of tension".

"If you look back over time there's nothing wrong and indeed it would, it would be strange frankly if senior people in the media and senior politicians didn't have that close interaction," he said.

The former PM said the views of the press on issues ranging from the trade unions to Europe had not affected his approach.

"I don't know a policy that we changed as a result of Rupert Murdoch," he said.

In his written statement, Mr Blair says his government "more often than not" rejected the views expressed by the Murdoch media, and he provided six examples of when the Labour government had shown such robustness.

These included preventing BSkyB's takeover of Manchester United and granting new channels to the BBC.

In fact the strongest lobbying he had received from a media organisation during his time in office was from the BBC over the licence fee, he told the hearing.

Mr Blair told the inquiry that, at its best, British journalism was the best in the world.

But he said the word "unhealthy" rather than "cosy" was a better description of the relationship in some cases between journalists and those in power.

Cherie action

Mr Blair made a range of points in his evidence, including:

  • He had not taken on the media as it would have provoked a major confrontation and he had not wanted that to detract from other policy goals.
  • The Sun and the Daily Mail were the two most powerful newspapers. The Sun was important because it was prepared to shift its political allegiance
  • It was important to get the Sun "on board" and former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks mattered because she was editor at the time. But the decision-maker was Mr Murdoch not Mrs Brooks
  • He defended his decision to send Rebekah Brooks a message of support after the phone hacking scandal erupted as he was "not a fair-weather friend"
  • Mr Blair revealed his wife Cherie had taken or considered legal action about press coverage on more than 30 occasions.
  • He said a certain amount of comment was "perfectly legitimate" but some of the papers, particularly the Daily Mail, "took it too far and it turned into a personal vendetta" He said some sections of the media "say 'right, we are going to go for that person'", adding: "That's not journalism. In my view it's an abuse of power".

Proceedings were interrupted for around 20 seconds during Monday morning's session when the protester, who told reporters his name was David Lawley-Wakelin from the Alternative Iraq Enquiry, burst in.

Lord Justice Leveson apologised to Mr Blair and questioned how the man was able to enter the court through what should have been a secure corridor. The man was removed and an investigation was immediately ordered.

Mr Blair said on the record that there was no truth in the allegation, made by the protester, that he had been "paid off" by the US banking giant JP Morgan for the Iraq War.

The man has been released without charge after being arrested on suspicion of a breach of the peace.

At the close of Monday's session, Lord Justice Leveson gave a strong indication of the measures he believed were needed to remedy the problems with the press following the phone-hacking scandal.

"Whatever comes out of this must be independent of government, independent of the state, independent of parliament but independent of the press," he said.

Also being considered are measures to improve systems of redress for the public and a mechanism for intervening before damaging stories are published.

The former prime minister is the first of several senior politicians due to appear at the inquiry this week, including Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt on Thursday.

He is under pressure over the way he handled News Corp's attempted takeover of BSkyB.[ach/BBC]

subteen obidiah: Learning About Emotional Freedom Technique ...

If you have been looking for an effective form of treatment to stay away from depression, fatigue, fear, anxiety, or any other emotional complication, you can trust emotional freedom technique (EFT). This non-invasive and easy-to-practice form of alternate healing is slowly but steadily gaining popularity among people from all parts of the world, irrespective of the age or gender.

Before we read any further, it is important for us to note that the discovery statement of EFT is ??The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body?s energy system.? Emotional freedom techniques relieve emotionally painful or disturbing past by using the memory as a reference and addressing the true cause of the memory, which is a disruption in the energy system of the body.

The fact that EFT can be conducted over the phone and promotes physical and emotional health means that it is one of the easiest and most accessible ways to get rid of the ?emotional baggage of the past.? It is worthwhile to note that EFT is commonly used to provide relief to individuals suffering from physical and emotional complications such as anger, driving, public speaking fear, pain, career blocks, grief, trauma, and guilt.

The fact that emotional freedom techniques are free from side effects is one of the biggest reasons why it has been in use by physicians, therapists, and even psychiatrists to treat their patients. The technique is a part of the cluster of therapies that come under the category of energy psychology, which is nowadays redefining the use of therapy in healing.

During execution of the technique, the EFT expert makes use of tapping by fingers and positive affirmations for releasing blocks in energy systems of the body. The process is all about gently tapping on the acupressure points along the meridians and emphasizing on the negative emotions to remove them with positive affirmations. Once the blocks are removed, energy within the body moves freely and the patient (individual on whom EFT is practiced) experiences physical and emotional relief. It is surprising but true to know that EFT has actually helped many individuals get rid of past traumas and fears and the attained results are permanent in nature.

I hope that this information on emotional freedom technique (EFT) would have proved to be a good source for clearing all your second thoughts about EFT and its usefulness. It is also believed that this piece of information will help you get and stay healed and give your best to yourself, for yourself.

James Goodridge is an expert columnist for many health journals and authored sites. The beauty of James? writing lies in his ability to connect with his readers almost instantly, making it easier for them to ingest the same in their daily schedules as well. Wuih! CEO Apple Lewatkan Uang Rp 710 Miliar

Jakarta - CEO Apple Tim Cook membuat suatu keputusan mengejutkan.

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Young Jessica Sanchez Fan CRUSHED By American Idol Results

We've found her! The only female on the planet who did not vote Phillip Phillips for American Idol champion!

Granted, she's like four years old.

It's both hilarious and heart-breaking to watch her reaction to this week's finale results. But it should at least be comforting to Fox executives - following a season where ratings tumbled - to know that at least some fans out there still care. A lot.

Watch poor little Laney's reaction to the outcome now and start the hate mail campaign for the mother behind the camera, who seems to take pleasure in mocking her toddler's pain:

York researchers evaluate impact of climate change on biodiversity and habitats in East Africa

Posted on 21 May 2012

University of York researchers will play a key role in a new project studying the impact of climate change in Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia.

The new research and development project will address the problems and impact of climate change and variability on food security, livelihoods and economic prosperity around fragile mountain ecosystems.

Globally, and in Africa in particular, there is a general lack of knowledge on the impacts of climate change on sensitive mountain ecosystems.

Dr Rob Marchant

Known as the Climate Change Impacts on Ecosystem Services and Food Security in Eastern Africa (CHIESA), the four-year initiative will be co-ordinated by the Nairobi-headquartered International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), with funding from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. CHIESA will study the impact of climate change around Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the Taita Hills in Kenya and the Jimma Highlands in Ethiopia.

Dr Rob Marchant, from the University of York?s Environment Department, is co-ordinating one of six areas of study under the CHIESA project, assessing the impacts of climate change on biodiversity and habitats. He will lead a seven-strong team made up of a Postdoctoral researcher, visiting scientists from the University of Copenhagen and the WWF-US ecosystem service team, and six PhD students based in East African institutions.

Dr Marchant said: ?Globally, and in Africa in particular, there is a general lack of knowledge on the impacts of climate change on sensitive mountain ecosystems. Yet these regions are home to many rare and endangered species.

?In addition, many communities rely on them for their livelihoods; from food, water, timber and other natural resources. Moreover, the impact of climate change on the local level, for instance the impact on agricultural productivity, outbreaks of insect pests and changes in water resources are difficult to predict due to the scarcity of monitoring equipment and systems.?

The York-led team will look at the impacts of climate and land cover change on habitats and biodiversity, building regional modeling expertise and generating predictive models for climate impacts on ecosystem services and livelihoods.

Dr Marchant said: ?The extent and speed of climate change will severely challenge the adaptive capacity of important species like pollinators and agricultural pests and their natural enemies, as well as the rural communities that depend on rain-fed agricultural production.

?Climate and land cover changes affect the habitats of these species and addressing these threats requires integration of biological research, conservation planning and rural development, and the application of up-to-date modeling skills.??

The project will collaborate with numerous local Governmental and non-governmental institutions such as the Tanzania, Kenyan and Ethiopian Meteorological Agencies to install automatic weather stations in Mount Kilimanjaro, the Taita Hills and the Jimma Highlands. The project will also work with its lead partners, the University of Helsinki, the University of Dar es Salaam and Sokoine University of Agriculture, to build capacity of Tanzanian, Ethiopian and Kenyan organisations to address climate change research and development issues.

The CHIESA partners will evaluate the perceptions of farmers and their experiences on how they have been affected by climatic conditions and variability.? They will then link this information to scientific data to establish local monitoring systems to reduce risks and promote resilient, sustainable agriculture.

One of the major goals of CHIESA is to partner with stakeholders from Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia to provide communities living around the East African highlands with sustainable and effective options to cope with the impacts of climate change.

Rosalind Sedacca: The Dos & Don'ts of Successful Post-Divorce ...

It's no secret that one of the biggest challenges a parent faces after divorce is staying in good communication with your children. Obviously all parents struggle with communication issues as their children grow, but children who have had their lives dramatically altered by separation or divorce need even more attention and diligent observation by their parents.

Children tend not to tell you when they are angry, resentful, confused, hurt or depressed. Instead they reflect their problems through their behavior -- acting out or perhaps turning inward in ways that you have not experienced prior to the divorce.

Here are some tips that most all professionals agree about as ways to encourage positive and productive communication between you and your children. Many of these are obvious or innate behaviors. Some can easily be forgotten amid the challenges you are juggling in your own life on a daily basis.

Take time to see the world through your children's eyes and you will be better able to meet their needs, understand their confusion or aggression and find appropriate ways to dissolve tension through your conversation and caring behaviors.

- Be available and attentive when your child comes to you to talk or ask questions. That means turning off the TV, putting down the newspaper, not answering the phone and giving them eye-contact and a welcoming smile. Sometimes attempting to talk to you is the result of considerable thought and risk on their part. Encourage these conversations when they happen.

- It is helpful to sit, kneel or get down closer to your child's level in other ways when you talk. Towering over them is a form of intimidation that does not translate into safety or trust.

- Keep your conversations private unless they want to include others. Let them know they are safe in confiding to you and that you are interested and care about matters that concern them.

- Don't dismiss a subject lightly if it is one bothering your child. Laughing, joking or teasing will create alienation that ultimately will discourage your child to share what is bothering them with you. This is a dangerous road to travel, especially as your children develop into their teen years.

- Equally important is to never embarrass your children or put them on the spot in front of others. This will immediately close the door to honest, trustworthy communication.

- Avoid talking to your child when you are angry or upset with them or others. Promise to talk in a half-hour or hour at a specific place after you've had a chance to settle down and regain your objectivity.

- Be an active listener. Don't interrupt while your child is talking. Listen carefully and then paraphrase back what you heard them say. Ask if you're right in your interpretation. They'll tell you. This give and tack will help you be more precisely understood what is really at issue.

- Asking "why" can be intimidating and close off your conversation. Instead, ask "what happened" questions which keep the dialogue open.

- Be patient. Don't react or respond until you get the full message. Sometimes it takes some meandering for your child to reach the crucial point of what they want to say. Don't shut them off too soon!

- Remember that preaching, moralizing or "parenting" comments can put up barriers to clear communication. Listening is your most valuable skill and tool.

- Watch your judgments and put-downs, even with upsetting information. Don't belittle your children, call them names or insult their behaviors. Talk to them -- not at them! The difference is felt as respect.

- Acknowledge your children for coming to you. Praise their braveness. If you were at fault, apologize honestly and discuss how you can make changes for the future.

- Show that you accept and love them -- even if their behaviors were not acceptable. Then help them come up with some acceptable solutions they can understand and feel good about.

Children who feel safe talking to their parents grow up as better communicators overall. They will be more likely to have healthy communication in their own adult relationships -- with their spouses and children.

Families that keep feelings repressed, that don't discuss issues that come up, send the message that it's not all right to talk about things that bother us. The consequences of this can be seen in our nightly news headlines every day.

You can open the doors to caring communication in your home by starting today. Your children may be a little resistant at first as they test the waters, but they will surely appreciate this opportunity once they know you are sincere. Start the process yourself -- and see how valuable it is to "hear" what your children have to say!

Ke$ha Gives Flaming Lips Frontman His First-Ever Toe Tattoo

'Within 20 minutes of being at her house, I had a tattoo on my toe,' Wayne Coyne says of working with Ke$ha.
By James Montgomery

<P><a href=" http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/flaming_lips/artist.jhtml">Flaming Lips</a> mastermind Wayne Coyne took more away more than just <a href=" http://pitchfork.com/news/46404-flaming-lips-blood-vinyl-10-copies-2500-features-keha-erykah-badu-nick-cave-chris-martin-blood/" target="_blank">a vial of blood</a> when he traveled to Nashville to record with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a> (though, really, you'd think that would be enough). He also left with his first-ever tattoo ... not to mention a newfound respect for the wildchild pop star.</P><P>"Most of the time, if someone's willing to work with me, they're going to be a freak. And Ke$ha ... I sort of thought that she would be a freak, I'd heard about her and we'd tried to get a hold of her earlier," Coyne told MTV News backstage at the <a href="/news/articles/1685474/dave-matthews-band-hangout-fest.jhtml">Hangout Fest</a> in Gulf Shores, Alabama. "We showed up at her house, and she has a tattoo gun that she gives everyone a tattoo with, so within 20 minutes of being at her house, I had a tattoo on my toe; it's the only tattoo I've ever had.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Wayne Coyne Calls Ke$ha 'A Lot Of Fun'" id="vid:784802" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"We were set to do this one song that I had prepared, and we went into the studio that night, and stayed there until about 2 in the morning, and did four songs, just making stuff up," he continued. "And the next day [we] worked for another couple hours. She's funny, she's gracious, she's imaginative, she's creative and she's <i>a lot</i> of fun to be around."</P><P>The result of that collaboration (a song called "2012") shows up on the Lips' special Record Store Day double-LP, <i>The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends,</i> a thoroughly out-there collection of songs and sound-collages that &#8212; as the title implies &#8212; the band recorded with the likes of Bon Iver, Nick Cave, Neon Indian, Yoko Ono and, uh, Coldplay's Chris Martin ... to name just a few. But will fans get to hear even <i>more</i> of the Flaming Lips/Ke$ha team up? Well, Coyne certainly hopes so.</P><P>"We really loved making this music together &#8212; I think I've probably done six or seven songs with her &#8212; and I know a lot of her fans like it ['2012'], but I don't know if we'll put more songs out there," he said. "She has other agendas besides doing music with Wayne, you know, but I hope so, because I think it's really great, crazy, <i>unexpected</i> music. And she, to her credit, loves what we do. She wants it to be whatever. She has no limits of what she wants it to be."</P><P>And don't think the <i>Heady Fwends</i> sessions will the last time Coyne and Ke$ha share time (or blood) in the studio. If anything, the Lips' recent output of, uh, <i>non-traditional</i> releases &#8212; songs encased in gummy skulls and fetuses, 24-hour noise-jam freakouts that <a href="http://flaminglipstwentyfourhoursong.com/" target="_blank">play for all eternity</a>, limited-edition vinyl filled with actual blood, etc &#8212; suggests Coyne and Co. are just getting started ... and they're going to get even weirder before they're finished.</P><P>"That's been the beautiful thing about all of these weird collaborations and projects; you work with <i>freaks.</i> Even working with someone like Chris Martin, he's very open to, like, 'Let's do stuff!' That's the great surprise about it," Coyne said. "I don't think people are surprised when we work with a group like Lightning Bolt or Neon Indian &#8212; people think of us as like-minded &#8212; but the surprising thing with the Chris Martins or the Ke$has, they're like us too, they just don' play music that sounds like that all the time."</P><P><center><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></center></p>

Health & Fitness: Self Improvement

Children behave differently. There are those who are naturally friendly and would respond to everything around them with glee most of the time. But there are those who refuse to let their guards down until they are very comfortable with the people whom they are interacting with. This is very evident in many cases of shyness in preschoolers. This is very true for kids who have been very sheltered by their parents and other loved ones at home, especially those who do not get to play with other kids their age most of the time. A lot of them find it hard to relate to other people, even kids their age, because they cannot easily adapt to the changes that they experience once they enter school.

If you are a parent who has this dilemma, you have to understand what your kids are going through. You have to support them every step of the way. At the start, you need to be by their side constantly. This must be done until you feel like they are ready to take things on their own. Here are some techniques on how you may go about the matter.

1. You must take things at a time. You must understand that at this point, you should think about the steps that you ought to do to be able to help your child. You must integrate things that can help them gain confidence and they should feel your support through it all. You must allow them to do things according to their preference and capabilities.

2. You should not put too much pressure on your kids. If you want them to change their attitude, you will not achieve that if you are going to pound on them every so often whatever you want to happen. You must not expect them to act like other active kids. Instead of following you, they might turn against the idea and also turn away from kids whom you keep comparing them with.

3. Set good examples of what you preach. It will be easier for your kids to understand what you are trying to tell them by being good examples of what you would want them to be. You must encourage them to speak their minds whenever they are being asked certain questions and at times when there are people who are talking to them. You should also tag them along with you at occasions where they will be exposed to many people, especially on events where there will be many children.

4. Involve your kids in role playing games where you will ask them to do roles that reflect the kind of person that you want them to become. This serves as a practice for them to know what to do in instances if they are not shy. You should prepare for the game and give them roles that will inspire them to do the same acts if ever they will be faced with the same situations in the future.

You can do your share to counter shyness in preschoolers as long as you are focused on the task and you firmly believe that you can achieve the goals that you have set for them.

Bump App Update: Transfer Photos From Your Phone to Computer With Just a Tap

Bump, an app for Android phones and the iPhone, has made it very easy for people to transfer photos or money from one phone to another. It's now set its sights on transfers from a phone to a computer.

Today the company is announcing an update to its app that will now let users transfer photos from their phones to their computers by just tapping the phone on the space bar.

"Sharing photos has been a big use case for Bump. Over 600 million photos have been shared using Bump in the last two years, and we now wanted to enable bumping with your computer," Bump CEO and co-founder David Lieb told ABC News.

From today on, you will be able to select the photos you want to transfer in the Bump app, go to the Bump website on your computer, and then tap the phone on the spacebar key to transfer them. In order for it to work you have to enable location sharing on your computer's web browser.

According to Lieb, the feature works with most modern web browsers, including Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. There are some sporadic issues with Internet Explorer, he says.

So how does it all work? The new app uses the same technology in Bump's self-titled app and in Bump Pay. A combination of the sensors in the phone and Bump's Cloud services allow the phone and computer to communicate and then transfer the photos.

We tried out the feature and it worked just as promised. Within four seconds, four photos from an Android 4.0 phone popped up in the Bump website and we had the option to download them to the computer's hard drive. It certainly beat emailing them or having to dig out the transfer cable.

The Bump app is available now; if you already have the app, an update enabling the phone-to-computer transfer will be available for download today.

Oh No They Didn&#39;t! - 11 Movie Couples We Wish Were Together In ...

Some married couples are just so perfect together in movies that we wish they were paired up in real life. We've compiled a list of married duos who have set a great example for what real couples should be -- from twosomes with great chemistry to those who have incredibly supportive relationships,

Which on-screen couples do you wish existed in real life?

Harry And Sally - "When Harry Met Sally"

Despite all of the bickering that Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) do in the 1989 classic "When Harry Met Sally," the pair seems destined to be together. They may butt heads, but the couple's playful banter and non-stop conversation show that the two friends have a deep connection.

Harry And Erica - "Something's Gotta Give"

Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) and Erica Barry (Diane Keaton)'s relationship might not have had the easiest start -- Harry was dating Erica's daughter -- but the two connect after Harry falls ill and is forced to stay at Erica's to recover. Although most Hollywood romances focus on couples in their 20s and 30s, this 2003 film focuses on two equally-successful boomers who fall for each other, proving that love happens at every age.

Rhett Butler And Scarlett O'Hara - "Gone With The Wind"

Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) and Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) may not have had the most straightforward romance when they first got together, but they have definitely have electricity in the 1939 classic, "Gone With The Wind."

Julia And Robbie - "The Wedding Singer"

In 1998's "The Wedding Singer," Julia Sullivan (Drew Barrymore) and Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) are both about to marry other people when their friendship blossoms and turns into a romance. When the sparks begin flying, it's clear that the two are meant to be together.

Peter And Zooey - "I Love You Man"

Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) and Zooey Rice (Rashida Jones) have a great relationship in the 2009 movie "I Love You, Man." In the film, understanding and supportive wife Zooey tries to help her fiance make friends so that he can have a life outside of their relationship -- and a best man at their wedding.

Jamie and Landon - "A Walk To Remember"

Shy and conservative Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) and rebellious bad-boy Landon Carter (Shane West) might seem like an unusual pair at the start of "A Walk to Remember," but the two end up being good for each other in the 2002 film. They challenge each other's limits and end up falling in love.

Tom And Violet - "The Five Year Engagement"

Tom (Jason Segel) and Violet's (Emily Blunt) engagement may be a half-decade long in 2012's "The Five Year Engagement", but they make it through all of the minor (and major) snafus to their wedding day. If anything, the couple's on-screen relationship shows how engagements (and relationships in general) require dedication and tons of hard work.

Carl And Ellie - "Up"

We love Carl and Ellie so much that we're willing to overlook the fact they're cartoon characters. In 2009's "Up," the pair first meet as children who later get married and grow old together in a house that they've restored. The couple had always dreamt of travelling to Paradise Falls, but when Ellie dies unexpectedly, Carl makes the trip alone in her memory.

Monica And Quincy - "Love And Basketball"

Is there anything as aww-worthy as the romance between Monica and Quincy from 2000's "Love And Basketball"? The two start off as childhood friends and grow up to be lovers, but they later break up when things get complicated. Even though Quincy is engaged when the two finally reunite, he chooses Monica in the end.

Shrek And Fiona - "Shrek"

A cartoon ogre and princess might seem more like enemies than a couple, but in 2001's "Shrek," that's definitely not the case. Shrek and Princess Fiona have one of the most down-to-earth relationships we've seen on film.

Allie And Noah - "The Notebook"

If there's one thing we can't get enough of, it's Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) and Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling)'s enduring passion for each other in 2004's "The Notebook."

EU appeals to China to join global emissions talks

BEIJING (AP) ? A European envoy held out a possible compromise in a fight with China over carbon emissions charges on airlines, saying Wednesday that Europe might alter its system if Beijing helps negotiate global regulations.

China, India, the United States and Russia oppose the European Union charges that took effect Jan. 1. Beijing has barred its carriers from cooperating and has suspended purchases of European aircraft.

Talks on a global system have begun in the International Civil Aviation Organization, a U.N. body, said Matthew Baldwin, director of aviation for the 27-nation EU. He said Europe might alter its Emissions Trading System if an agreement is reached.

"We would very much like to see a stronger role played by China in those talks," Baldwin told reporters at a European-Chinese aviation conference. "In the event of a global solution in ICAO, the EU is fully ready to review and amend the ETS directive to take account of that global solution."

Baldwin said he would press that appeal during talks with Chinese economic planners and airline regulators this week.

Baldwin said the ICAO talks are looking at four possible "market mechanisms" to regulate carbon emissions but gave no details.

The dispute highlights the complex status of countries such as China and India that are large emissions sources but as developing economies are exempt from mandatory limits.

China, the biggest source of greenhouse gases, has promised to curb emissions but has rejected binding commitments. The communist government warned in February it would take steps to protect its carriers.

In March, European aircraft manufacturer Airbus Industrie said Beijing was blocking orders by China's state-owned carriers for jets with a total list price of $12 billion in a challenge to the carbon charges.

Airbus said it also is seeing "retaliation threats" from 25 other countries.

Under the European system, airlines flying to or from Europe must obtain certificates for carbon dioxide emissions. They will get free credits to cover most flights this year but must buy or trade for credits to cover the rest.

It is unclear how far Europe might be willing to go to compromise with Beijing.

Public attitudes in Europe have hardened because China's emissions have risen steadily despite a credit system that channeled billions of dollars from European utility customers and others to Chinese companies to pay for cleaner technology.

European officials say Beijing is reluctant to negotiate a new system that would impose stricter limits on Chinese emissions in exchange for continued payments.

EU officials defend the airline charges as consistent with Europe's determination to be a leader in curbing climate change. They say that with free credits taken into account, the added cost per passenger on a flight from Beijing to Brussels, the EU capital, would be 17.50 yuan or 1.90 euros ($2.70).

Beijing has leverage in a dispute because its airlines carry large numbers of Chinese and other Asian tourists to Europe. Any disruption would hurt Europe's travel industry while the continent is struggling with a debt crisis and high unemployment.

India also has barred its carriers from paying the European charges, which the EU will start to collect next year.

Baldwin declined to say whether Chinese or other airlines might face penalties if they refuse to cooperate.

"We obviously hope that everyone will comply with the emissions trading system, and I think it is far to early to start talking about punitive measures," he said.

China rejects the charges as an improper tax. It filed a legal challenge along with U.S. airlines and India. The EU's highest court upheld them in December, ruling they were not a tax because airlines could be exempt if they take "equivalent measures" to curb emissions and can recoup money through trading credits.

Environmentalists welcomed the European program, one of the most far-reaching measures to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Although only 3 percent of total carbon emissions come from aircraft, aviation is the fastest-growing source.

The International Air Transport Association, an industry group, opposes the European charges and has appealed for a global settlement. IATA represents about 240 airlines that carry 84 percent of global air traffic.

IATA says the European system will cost airlines up to 900 million euros ($1.2 billion) this year and rise to 2.8 billion euros in 2020.

Swimming Pools: Tips On Do It Yourself Home Improvement | Scuba ...

Home improvement projects are fun and exciting, but can also be a challenge when you are doing it all yourself. Even if you do choose to employ professional services for your home improvement project, there are things to consider and you want to make only the best choices. Read these tips provided to get a good idea of where to start and what you will encounter.

Large structural enhancements such as erecting a patio or installing quality swimming pools may require permits and permission from your local council before starting the work. If you are uncertain the local council policies or are considering taking on such changes, hire a fully qualified builder to assist you to install your quality swimming pool or whatever outdoor structure you desire. Such could even stop you from receiving a fine in the future.

Seriously reconsider adding a swimming pool to your backyard. A pool can be an enjoyable addition to a home. What some people fail to realize is that they are also very expensive. Not only are there the initial costs to consider, there is also the cost of regular upkeep. Make sure you have the money and time required, to keep your pool area from falling into disrepair, before you spend the money on it.

When renovating your home, make sure that you do it with the local area in mind. There is little point in building a large, outdoor deck area if it is constantly windy or putting up a pool in an area where it is constantly cold. These additions will not add value to the property and are, therefore, wasted money.

Don?t ignore local characteristics when adding improvements. A pool is perfect in Miami, but not so much in Vermont. A beach house with a deck works well in southern California, but the winds at the beach in Hyannis, Massachusetts would blow away every last deck chair. Features that are not usable in your area?s climate will add no value to your home.

When it comes to home improvement, you may decide to not install a swimming pool. While they are desirable, it will cost you considerable amounts of money in upkeep, and it may prove to be a deterrent to future buyers who do not want the hassle. An exception to this would be at a home where a swimming pool is almost expected, such as in Florida or Arizona.

When renovating your home, make sure that you do it with the local area in mind. There is little point in building a large, outdoor deck area if it is constantly windy or putting up a pool in an area where it is constantly cold. These additions will not add value to the property and are, therefore, wasted money.

Now that you have read the sound and practical home improvement information in the article above, you can take your home improvement dreams one step closer to becoming reality. The tips above will give you the confidence you need to create what you have imagined, and do it the right way.

A History Of A Chopper ? Automotive Blog

Written by: Mickey on May 22, 2012 @ 4:17 pm

Nobody is aware who exactly made the first choppers, though it is commonly agreed upon that these motorcycles were being constructed by troops coming back home from World War Two. Troops that had ridden motorcycles around Europe determined that the Harley Davidsons being produced in the Us had been slow and cumbersome, something which usually is still accurate today. In an endeavor to lighten up these street bikes, the motorcyclists began to clear away unwanted components along with ?bob? the fenders. Had the European cycles been readily available in the US I feel that these motorcyclists may possibly have deserted Harley Davidson right then and we would have a completely different motorcycle scene than what we have these days.

These early customized motorcycles were labeled as Bobbers and the word Choppers truly did not become common before the sixties and early 1970?s. Many sources reference the movie Easy Rider as the start of the cultural phenomena, but nationwide news about the antics of the Hells Angels undoubtedly had the impression of the biker outlaw previously set in the public?s thoughts, a considerably badder version in comparison to what we saw in the film The Wild One from 1953.

The upcoming generation which was chopping bikes made their very own technique by not simply bobbing the motorcycles but by introducing extra rake and much longer front ends in addition to, of course, the mandatory sissy bar. The customized cycles most of us recognize as choppers had been born. I think it is remarkable that even though the two words ?bobber? and ?chopper? grew to become distinctive forty years ago they are currently becoming used interchangeably, often by folks that do not actually understand the words at all.

The choppers of the late sixties moved from merely being bobbed Harley Davidsons with no turn signals and mirrors to being also customized motorcycles with ape hanger handle bars, just like Sonny Barger had been making use of back in the late 50s, skinny front tires as well as the previously described sissy bar. At this point you were no longer simply getting rid of extraneous components but ended up additionally introducing a couple of details of our very own. Back then there were no ?custom bike builders? and most of the work was getting performed in the rider?s own garage. When we pushed into the 70s, builders began to become exceptionally creative and the bike as a style of art was born.

Artist David Mann captured the complete chopper lifestyle in his work, and custom motorcyclists genuinely attempted to next start building custom choppers primarily based on David Mann?s more extraordinary inspired interpretations of what choppers could possibly look like. The bikes that Mann invented very quickly grew directly into seriously being. The seventies were definitely made for custom bikes.

Fascination with cycles sort of fizzled out through the 80?s when individuals turned out to be far more excited about building muscle cars from models from the late sixties and 70s than they were in bikes. In the meantime lots of motorcyclists were switching to Japanese sport bikes and leaving the Harley scene and almost any choppers you would see simply looked like relics from a bygone period. The actual biker scene still did not disappear completely at all, but it undoubtedly moved underground as far as the overall public was concerned.

Not surprisingly, all we know today on the subject of custom motorcycle building as been because of cable tv working to fill up the dead air with stories about anything they could and the initial TV show done about Jesse James wasn?t intended to turn into a new television genre, however it did. The rich of the sudden resolved they had to have a custom made bike and never being aware of the historical past of bikes people quickly started calling every customized bike a chopper, even when by definition it wasn?t. In actual fact the cycles popularized by bike builders on television were frequently more in the style of Pro Street bikes which were operate on the drag strip then by anything that resembled an accurate chopper, with a couple noteworthy exceptions.

As the interest in having custom motorcycles and bikes in general bloomed in more middle-class folks, most of these new motorcyclists were more likely to take the time and understand their motorcycles, quite a few of which needed to learn how to work on them due to genuine necessity, like the first bikers did. Motorcycles and custom bikes became an appropriate sort of fun for the whole family and the reputation of the outlaw biker has recently been changed into the attorney or plumber biker.

Although we continue to have many authentic choppers being created, the real meaning of the word has probably been lost permanently, although not the heart and soul of those who built them. As customized motorcycles fall out of fashion we are left with an exceedingly substantial core number of new bikers that may now ride the rest of their life, and several of those will likely be likewise creating choppers.
